The 457 Plan is very similar to the 403(b) in that it is a voluntary savings for retirement. The Virginia Retirement System administers the program and contracts with a third party provider, ING, to handle contributions and investments. The maximum annual contribution limit under this plan is $16,500 for employees under age 50 and $22,500 for employees age 50 or more for the 2009 tax year.
