Assistant Commandant for Cadet Life 

 

VMI is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Commandant for Cadet Life. Reporting to the Deputy Commandant for Cadet Life, this Assistant Commandant provides supervision and counsel to the cadets in leadership positions within the Regimental S2 (Academics), S5 (Public Relations), S6 (Athletics) and S7 (Activities) staffs; Ring Figure Committee; and Cadet Publications’ staffs. Duties of this position include Cadet Life webmaster; recorder for the Cadet Publications Board and Military/Cadet Affairs Committee of the Board of Visitors; administering the VMI Fitness Test (VFT); supervising cadet peer mentoring; planning and conducting military and physical training; issue resolution; operations planning and execution; and working with the regimental chain of command and the cadet class elected government system.  Responsibilities include working with club sports and extracurricular activities - their cadets-in-charge, coaches and advisors and leading physical/remedial training sessions.  Also included is participation in the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution oversight of all Cadet Life programs and events. Additional staff duties as assigned in support of the Corps of Cadets and the Commandant will require recurrent weekend and evening hours.

 

Applicants should have experience in conflict resolution, group facilitation and presenting training programs to college-age students.  Experience in planning for and managing multiple budgets and programs is desired. Applicants should have a Bachelors degree with related experience or a master’s degree in counseling or human resource management.  Prior military service, military college or VMI experience is not required, but is desired.  Experience in mentoring and counseling young adults in a training environment is also desired.

 

This is an entry level full-time position with a generous benefits package.  The incumbent will wear a military uniform and observe military and VMI customs and courtesies.
