Assistant Professor of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, VA, is seeking to fill a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to start August 2013. Candidates with teaching and research interests in analytical, physical or computational chemistry will be considered. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and develop an active research program that involves undergraduates. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related field and be able to teach advanced courses and laboratories in either analytical or physical chemistry. Post-doctoral experience is preferred, as well as technical expertise with an NMR spectrometer.
The VMI Chemistry Department has seven tenure-track professors and two technicians, offers the ACS-certified degree in chemistry, is well-equipped with modern instrumentation, and is undergoing a full building renovation to be completed August 2013. VMI is a military college that is consistently ranked as a top public liberal arts college. All 1600 students live on campus and about 50% commission in the US Armed Forces. Faculty wear uniforms but no prior service is required. The starting date for this position will be 1 August 2013.
