Computer and Information Science Faculty Position - HCI/Software Engineering

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning in January 2014 or Fall 2014. Rank is open, commensurate with qualifications.
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses in information systems including HCI, software engineering, and usability courses, and establish a strong research program (involving undergraduates as appropriate) in his or her area of expertise. The standard teaching load is three courses per semester with approximately 15-20 students per course. A Ph.D. or Ph.D. in progress in information science, computer science, information systems, or a closely related field is required with emphasis in HCI, software testing, and/or software engineering.
VMI’s newly developed Computer and Information Sciences major offers a broad applied program of cyber security, application and database design, HCI, and testing, as well as software engineering and systems administration. We seek colleagues with the experience, energy, and ideas to contribute to developing the curriculum and shaping the department’s future. Exploring collaborations with other academic departments is particularly encouraged.
Founded in 1839 as the nation’s first state military college, VMI is a top-ranked, public liberal arts college offering B.S. and B.A. degree programs in engineering, the sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities. Located in the Shenandoah Valley in historic Lexington, Virginia, the campus sits on 134 acres, 12 of which are designated as a National Historic District. The Shenandoah Valley stretches 200 miles across the Blue Ridge and Allegheny mountains. The natural scenic beauty of the area is accompanied by a variety of recreational opportunities and historic sites. Lexington (population 7,500) is located approximately three hours from Washington, D.C., and 2 hours from the Richmond metropolitan area.
