Maintenance Technician – Full-time (position located in New Market, VA)

Note: the work location for this position is New Market, Virginia  

The Virginia Museum of the Civil War, New Market Battlefield State Historical Park, is accepting applications for a full-time maintenance technician. Starting salary is $24,000. He/she works with two physical plant team members to maintain modern and historic buildings and the 300-acre grounds. Works with the Grounds Supervisor to ensure all requirements and equipment are identified and incorporated into the applicable accounts that support the maintenance department’s annual operations.  

Qualifications:  

• Knowledge of methods and safety practices related to cleaning, grounds keeping and preventative maintenance work.
• Working skill in the operation of manual and power cleaning equipment to include buffers, wet-dry vacuums, shampooers, and pressure washers and the ability to use grounds-keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, string trimmers, snow blowers and related equipment.
• Ability to lift or move heavy objects up to 50 lbs., to stand for extended periods of time and have the ability to perform manual labor  
• Ability to provide routine service to grounds equipment to include changing and sharpening blades and replacing associated belts and hardware.  
• Ability to perform light carpentry, electrical work and painting tasks.
• Ability to read and write English, to understand and follow oral/written and email instructions.
• Ability to work in either a team or individual environment.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Possess a valid VA driver’s license.
• Proven knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, internet and email.
