The Institute
Founded in 1839, Virginia Military Institute is the nation's first state military college. The Institute is a four-year undergraduate college awarding B.A. and B.S. degrees.

Location
Located in the Shenandoah Valley in historic Lexington, Virginia, the campus, referred to as "the Post," sits on 134 acres, 12 of which are designated as a National Historic District.

Tuition and Fees
A quartermaster charge includes the care of all uniforms, haircuts, laundering, tailoring, etc.  The total tuition, room and board, and fees includes where the cadets live, what they eat, what they wear, and where they spend their time.  Refer to Financial Aid for a breakdown of costs and scholarship opportunities.

1,500 male and female cadets from 45 states and 11 foreign countries.

Faculty
145 faculty members. 96 % of full-time faculty members hold the Ph.D or terminal degree.

VMI is a member of NCAA Division I (Division I-AA in football) and the Big South Conference; 15 intercollegiate sports and a range of club and intramural sports are available.
