24th Annual Environment Virginia Symposium

The Center for Leadership and Ethics is pleased to announce its call for papers for the 24th Annual Environment Virginia Symposium, hosted by the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, April 9 – 11, 2013. Abstracts will be accepted online 1 August - 16 October 2012. Only online submissions will be accepted. We invite submissions from professionals and undergraduates for 5-minute or 15-minutes presentations. Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:
- Chesapeake Bay
- Stormwater Management
- Emergency Response
- Water Supply
- Energy Development and Efficiency
- Land & Historic Preservation
- Zero Waste and Beyond
- Agriculture
- Ecology
- Air Quality
- Climate Change
- Communications
- Environmental Education
- Sustainability in Higher Education
- Ground water
- Water quality
- Human health
Proposals must be submitted electronically and abstracts should be fewer than 350 words. The deadline for submission is 16 October 2012. Abstracts will be reviewed by a pool of experts in a blind review process and will be judged on the following criteria:
- Measureable environmental improvement
- Measureable cost savings or efficiency
- Innovation
- Virginia-focused research
- Ability to replicate in other businesses, governments, or organizations
- Currency
A limited number of papers will be accepted. Authors of accepted papers must be available to present on Tuesday, 9 April, Wednesday, 10 April or Thursday, 11 April. Accepted speakers are responsible for their symposium registration fee and their own hotel and transportation costs. The full symposium program will be developed through a combination of invited plenary speakers, invited break-out session presenters, and presenters chosen based on submitted abstracts. Deadline for proposals is 16 October. Notification of Acceptance will be on Monday, 1 December 2012.
