George Washington: The American Cincinnatus
Translating His Honorable Life to Today's World
The 2014 Virginia Military Institute Leadership Conference will take place on 25 February. Designed for an audience of the Corps of Cadets and interested faculty and staff, this year’s conference will explore George Washington as an exemplar of honor and leadership. Participants will examine this heroic figure to gain a deeper understanding of his motivations and decisions, and be challenged to decide if the leadership insights gleaned are still relevant in the world today.
Prior to the 2014 Leadership Conference, an Honor Summit will take place on 24 February and build upon the themes of the 2013 Honor Conference, "Building and Strengthening Honor Codes: Inspiring Honor and Respect." Members of student honor councils and supporting faculty and administrators from institutions of higher education nationwide will discuss pressing issues related to the organization of honor systems and educational outreach to the student body and faculty. The keynote speaker will be Dan Ariely, author of “The Honest Truth about Dishonesty: How We Lie to Everyone -- Especially Ourselves.” Dr. Ariely is the James B. Duke Professor of Psychology and Behavioral Economics, Fuqua School of Business, Duke University.
