General Barry R. McCaffrey is a former Commander of SOUTHCOM, a US Drug Czar, news commentator, and military analyst.  He is a graduate of West Point.  His distinguished military career has taken him from combat operations in the Dominican Republic, to Vietnam, and to Iraq.  He twice earned the Distinguished Service Cross, three times the Purple Heart, and twice the Silver Star.  He was also awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. 

General McCaffrey also served as an instructor at the US Military Academy,  as an Assistant Commandant at the US Army Infantry School,  as Deputy US Representative to NATO, as Assistant Chairman to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as Director of Strategic Plans and Policy, and as the head of SOUTHCOM. 

He currently is president of his own consulting firm and an adjunct professor of international affairs at West Point.
