LEXINGTON, Va., May 20, 2013 – The VMI Regimental Band received four new snare drums during spring semester thanks to a donation from alumni in the classes of 1958 and 1963.
Charles Hayes ’58, helped gather alumni support to equip the band with the Pearl WeatherKing snare drums.
“The drums are unique in that they are tuned to produce a retro sound to be deeper and heard better at VMI parades,” said Col. John Brodie ’92. “The drums are inscribed with the names of the donors on plaque shields which look beautiful on parade.”
The drums have seen use at several parades this spring, including those commemorating graduation and the New Market ceremony.
