LEXINGTON, Va., June 5, 2014 – Site preparation for the Corps Physical Training Facilities Phase II renovation of Cormack Hall is under way.
A construction trailer has been placed on the north side of Main Street, across from Cormack. Other preparatory activities, including installation of a perimeter construction fence and installation of erosion and sediment control measures around Cormack, started yesterday.
The construction entrance will be located between Cormack and the eastern side of Kilbourne Hall and will be shared with personnel travelling to Kilbourne. All are asked to use caution in this area.
The eastern entrance to Stono Lane will be closed at North Main Street starting Monday and will remain closed until project completion. Those needing access to Crozet Hall, the VMI Health Center, or Turman House are asked to access Stono Lane from its intersection with Letcher Avenue at Crozet Hall.
A crosswalk will be painted on Main Street between Stono Lane and Cormack for use by construction personnel. The speed limit on North Main Street in the vicinity of construction has been reduced to 25 mph, and drivers are asked to exercise caution in this area.
Full construction activities will begin Monday and will increase in intensity throughout the summer. This will include increased construction vehicular traffic.
The project is expected to be completed in July 2015.
