Associate Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets
Chaplain Major John P. Casper ‘04 was born and raised in Norfolk, VA and is a 2004 VMI graduate. Upon graduation, he was employed at VMI as an Assistant Director of Admissions from 2004 until 2009. Married in the summer of 2005, John and his wife Lauren became very actively engaged in ministry to the Corps of Cadets, extending spiritual care and mentoring to a number of cadets. During this time, Chaplain Casper also served as an Assistant Investigator for the Inspector General’s Office, coached VMI’s Ceremonial Drill Team, served as a tactical officer in barracks, helped to lead the Character Counts program in the local Lexington school system, and were foster parents in the Rockbridge area.
In July of 2009, Chaplain Casper left the Institute to attend seminary at Regent University’s School of Divinity in Virginia Beach. While in seminary, John was also engaged in full time ministry as the Youth and Young Adult Pastor in a local non-denominational Bible church. During their time in Virginia Beach, John and Lauren obediently followed God’s leading on two separate occasions, adopting two children from Ethiopia. In early January of 2014, Chaplain Casper was selected as the Institute’s first Associate Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets.
John has earned an B.A. in English from VMI, as well as a M.A. in Theology (emphasis in Ministerial Leadership) and a M.Ed. in Christian Education (emphasis in Character Education) from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA. John and Lauren live in Lexington, VA and have two beautiful children: a son, Mareto, and a daughter, Arsema.
