Obituary for Mary Thalman, Wife of Legendary VMI Football Coach Bob Thalman

Mary Elizabeth Thalman, age 87, resident of Atlanta, Ga. passed away Tuesday, June 10th, 2014 at Sunrise Buckhead. She was born November 13th, 1926 in Wheeling, W. Va. the daughter of the late William A. and Madelyn R. Schnupp. Mary graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Wheeling, and then married Robert Joseph Thalman. Together they began their journey of 38 years in the football coaching profession in the Southeast. Mary embraced every new opportunity they experienced and especially appreciated the wonderful friends that they met along the way.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was known for her kindness, fun loving spirit, and selfless personality. Gardening and golf were two of her favorite pastimes and Gameday was her favorite day of the week.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her infant son Michael James Thalman, her husband Robert Joseph Thalman, brothers Charles and William Schnupp.
She is survived by brothers Dr. Paul Schnupp, Alfred Schnupp, and sister Kathleen Zdanowicz, her children, Linda Norwood (Tom), Robert Thalman (Lorraine), Carolyn Laraway (Mike), Tommy Thalman (Amy) and ten grandchildren.
