AACSB Accreditation
This past Christmas I was checking my VMI email account from home when I discovered a Christmas present I had been waiting on for years.

The Major Field Test in Business
Though not up to our usual standards, the Class of 2010 performed well on the Educational Testing Service’s Major Field Test—Business (MFTB).

Faculty Research
Our faculty have been hard at work publishing research in academic journals as well as presenting their research at various conferences around the country and the world.

Lopez Chair
The Economics and Business department is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Stephen Todd McCane to teach in the department for Fall 2010.

Experiential Learning
As part of a course titled “The Chilean Miracle: International Marketing and Business,” eight cadets and five students from Va Tech, lead by Col. Joe Scarpaci, travelled to Chile not only to learn about economics and business, but also about the country’s culture.

The Cadet Investment Group
The Cadet Investment Group (CIG) was founded in 1986 by the VMI Foundation. The group’s mission is to learn about investing. To do this, members serve as investment analysts and portfolio managers.

Cadet Internships
In the summer of 2010, thirteen cadets will be participating in interships at various businesses across the country. Four of these cadets are also doing the associated academic work required to earn business or economic elective credits for their internships.

Richmond Federal Reserve Bank Field Trip
On April 6, 2010, Maj. Allen traveled with 9 cadets to Richmond to tour the Federal Reserve Bank.

SBD and ODE Activity
The Sigma Beta Delta, the Honor Society for Business and Omicron Delta Economics Honor Society were quite active this past year thanks to cadet leadership.

Beta Gamma Sigma
As an AACSB-accredited program, VMI was invited to create a new chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society.

Cadet Awards
The Annual ODE Banquet to honor our top cadets was held on April 22nd.
