Lopez Chair

The Economics and Business department is pleased to announce the return of Mr. Stephen Todd McCane to teach in the department for fall 2011. Mr. McCane is the President of Gold Rain Resources, St. Louis, MO. He has also serves as the President of Stephen McCane Consulting where he worked for over two decades with various small companies as a consultant on the nature of Chinese business. Prior to that, he worked in sales and marketing in various small businesses studying the art of selling, managing, and servicing customers. Mr. McCane started his first business importing products from China in 1979 and was the top seller of products at two solar energy companies. He started his second business selling conservation of energy products.

Mr. McCane will be teaching in both ECBU and History. He will be teaching an course in Asian Business which will provide an introduction into the mind of Asian business men and women that is necessary to fluently conduct business in the Far East, studying Chinese and Japanese business styles including modern history, economics, negotiation, etiquette, culture, language, and philosophy of both cultures. In addition, he will be teaching China Since Mao for the History department.

The Eugenio Lopez Visiting Chair for Asian Studies was established in 1996 to recognize the accomplishments of Eugenio Lopez and to expand the knowledge and understanding of the Asia-Pacific region by VMI’s cadets. The Chair will bring an outstanding scholar on Asia from any of the liberal arts disciplines (including English and Fine Arts, History, International Studies, Modern Languages and Cultures, Economics and Business, etc.) to VMI for a one-semester teaching appointment.
