VMI Post on Summer Hours

LEXINGTON, Va., May 26, 2011 – With the close of the 2010-11 academic year, many venues at VMI have moved to summer hours.

Summer hours at the Keydet Bookstore are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hours at the PX food court are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., also Monday through Friday. Both are located in Lejeune Hall.

Preston Library hours while summer classes are in session, May 23-June 22 and June 27-July 28, are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The library will be closed Memorial Day weekend, Saturday through Monday, May 28-30, and the Fourth of July weekend, Saturday through Monday, July 2-4.

Special extended hours for exams will keep the library open until 2 a.m. June 21 and 22 and July 26, 27, and 28.

The VMI Museum, located in Jackson Memorial Hall on the VMI post, and the Virginia Museum of the Civil War, in New Market, Va., are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The Stonewall Jackson House in downtown Lexington, recently acquired by VMI, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Performances of the summer production of the new VMI Community Theatre, “Melodrama Tonight,” are scheduled for late June and July in the Gillis Theater in Marshall Hall.

The VMI post will be the site for the 15th annual BB&T Fourth of July Balloon Rally July 2-5. Sponsored by the Lexington Sunrise Rotary Club, the event will include fireworks on July 4, beginning at approximately 9 p.m. Information on balloon rides and other rally events is available at www.sunriserotarylexva.org/balloon.htm.

Dress parades by the Corps of Cadets are suspended until the return of the Corps for the 2011-12 academic year, with the first parade of year scheduled for Sept. 3.
