Institute life can pose many challenges for cadets with disabilities. The change in environment, academic demands, and military requirements pose significant expectations and responsibilities. Cadets must become adept at realistically assessing and understanding his or her strengths, weaknesses, and needs. He or she must be able to effectively communicate this information to faculty and staff. While the Office of Disabilities Services is here to assist and support cadets through this process, cadets must first identify a need and seek out services. Therefore, good communication skills and knowledge of oneself is crucial for success at VMI.
