Policies and Procedures

Once admitted to VMI, a cadet with a disability must meet the academic standards required to maintain enrollment.    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Virginians with Disabilities Act of 1985 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 guarantee equal access to and prohibit all programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance from excluding or discriminating against disabled individuals who are otherwise qualified to participate in those programs or activities.  At VMI, eligibility for services is determined by the Director of the Office of Disabilities Services who provides services using procedures in accordance with best practice standards and ethical code guidelines established by the Association on Higher Education and Disability, http://www.ahead.org/resources.
