Military Appreciation Events. The VMI football team wraps up its 2009 season on Saturday, playing host to Old Dominion on Military Appreciation Day at Foster Stadium, sponsored by HDT Engineered Technologies. Festivities for the game will include a pre-game flyover, presented by the US Air Force, a military-related performance by the VMI Regimental Band at halftime, as well as chances to visit the Army Adventure Trailer and the Kangaroo Bounce House. In addition, there will be games and prizes for the kids, and much, much more. Book Signing. Douglas A. Macgregor will be attending a book signing for his new book “Warrior’s Rage: The Great Tank Battle of 73 Easting” at the VMI Bookstore on Saturday, 21 November, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Colonel Macgregor, PhD., is a 1976 West Point graduate who also attended VMI for one year.
Thanksgiving Furlough. Thanksgiving Furlough for cadets will begin on Tuesday, 24 November, at the close of academic duty, and continue through 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, 29 November.
Thanksgiving Holiday. VMI will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday beginning at noon on Wednesday, 25 November, and reopening on Monday, 30 November.
Historical Presentation. VMI’s Virginia History Club, in conjunction with the Rockbridge Historical Society, is sponsoring a program on the life of Dr. Ephriam McDowell, a Rockbridge native who moved to Kentucky where he practiced medicine. Two hundred years ago, he performed the first successful abdominal surgery. Henry Dowell, a historical re-enactor from Kentucky, will portray this medical pioneer. The presentation will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, 30 November, in the auditorium of Nichols Engineering Hall.
