Skillcheck

In order to satisfy requirements established by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, new cadets are required to be tested for basic competency in office productivity software. VMI uses the Microsoft Office suite of products and cadets are expected to be proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

The testing program used, called SkillCheck, simulates the Microsoft Office environment and tests users by asking them to perform particular tasks. Users are allowed to attempt the task up to three times before the question is marked as incorrect. It should be noted that users are unable to run any other programs during the testing process. A passing score on the test is 75% and students may take the test as many times as needed until they pass without penalty. Scores are recorded automatically and are updated to the web site on a daily basis. You may check your score by clicking on the hyperlink located at the bottom of this web page.

SkillCheck is available to all Rats logged into the VMI network.  An icon will automatically be placed on the desktop once the user is logged in. Before accessing the program it is highly recommended that you read the instructions located at the bottom of this page.

NEW CADETS MUST HAVE ACHIEVED A PASSING SCORE ON ALL FOUR EXAMS BY OCTOBER 1 OTHERWISE THEY WILL BE PLACED ON ACADEMIC PROBATION.
