Commencement is the culmination of four years of study at the Institute. The walk across the stage during this ceremony is a moment every graduate remembers.
The doors to Jackson Memorial Hall will open at 9:30 a.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Expect heavy traffic so you and your family should plan accordingly. Please be seated by 10:45 a.m. A limited number of printed programs are available at the entrances to the seating area.
Due to space constraints and security reasons, coolers, backpacks, and baskets are not allowed at any commencement ceremony location. Strollers must be able to be folded and out of the aisles. All carry-in items are subject to search at the door.
The Superintendent will host a light reception for all graduates and family and friends in Moody Hall immediately following the ceremony in Jackson Memorial Hall.

Cadets must ensure they have fulfilled all financial obligations with the Comptroller's office in order to graduate. The Commandant's Office will issue detailed guidance concerning clearance of Barracks and accountability of Institute property.
There are two companies VMI deals with when ordering announcements:
Tickets are not required for the December Commencement Ceremony or Commissioning.
Commencement Ceremonies in Jackson Memorial Hall is open to the public.
Which events are open to the public? All events are open to the public, except the Superintendent's Reception.
Casual business attire is appropriate for all events.
Commissioning and Commencement Ceremonies
Parking on post will be in parking lots and in designated parking spot along streets. There will be no parking on the Parade Ground.
On the morning of Dec. 20, the area in front of Barracks will be closed to traffic until the conclusion of the commencement ceremony. Vehicles will be allowed in that area afterwards to allow cadets to move their belongings out of Barracks.
Inclement Weather Parking
If inclement weather makes parking on the Parade Ground impractical, additional parking may be found throughout post in designated parking areas.
Parking in Walking Distance
Other City Parking - On weekends, there are no time limits for parking on the street or in city parking lots. Contact the Lexington Visitor Center for more information.
Restrooms are located in J.M. Hall, Preston Library, Cameron Hall and Lejeune Hall (located at the end of Third Barracks.)
