Preston Library Allocation of the Monograph Budget By Department 

Preston Library uses the Colorado system as a basis for allocating the departmental budgets. This plan accommodates a wide variety of relevant factors and tends to moderate extreme variations produced by relying on only a few factors.

In this plan, the raw data percent for each relevant factor is multiplied by an assigned weight for a factor point total. The point totals are added for each department and these totals are converted to percentages of the total points for all departments. Each departmental percentage figure is then applied to the budget available for monographs. The consequent dollar figure becomes the department allocation for the fiscal year. The required data are taken from the Faculty Academic Load Study for the Fall and Spring semesters, the VMI Directory, and the current Bowker Annual.
