Career Path
Captain John Fritz is originally from Kenhorst, Pennsylvania. He enlisted into the Army Reserves as an 88K Watercraft Operator in December 1994 serving on the LT-803 MG Anthony Wayne. In June 2001, Captain Fritz graduated Drexel University with a BS in History and Politics. He commissioned Field Artillery and after Field Artillery Officer Basic Course he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 5th FA, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he served as a Fire Direction Officer, Battery XO, Battalion Ammunition Officer, and Battalion S4. As the Battery XO and Battalion Ammunition Officer, he deployed in support of OIF I. Captain Fritz’s next assignment was in the 212th FA Brigade as the Asst ECCORD to the 3d ACR with a deployment in support of OIF III and then Brigade Rear Detachment Operations Officer. In July 2006, Captain Fritz was then assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3d ACR, Ft Hood Texas, as the Squadron Fire Support Officer. In April 2007 he took command of Howitzer Battery, 1st Squadron, 3d ACR and deployed the battery in support of OIF 07-09. Captain Fritz’s battery fired over 6,000 rounds in support of 4th Stryker BDE, 2nd ID and 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment. After command he returned to 2nd Squadron, 3d ACR, again as the Squadron Fire Support Officer and redeployed back to Ft Hood Texas. After deployment, Captain Fritz attended the FA Captains Career Course before arriving to VMI in November 2009.
Captain Fritz is a graduate of Basic Training and 88K Advanced Individual Training, Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Tactical Information Operations Course, Joint Operational Fire and Effects Course, and Field Artillery Captains Career Course.
