Summer Undergraduate Research Institute

The VMI Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI) enhances academic excellence on Post and elevates academic programs to national standing among our peer institutions.  The program interfaces with all research-related activities that take place at VMI during the summer, including the independent chemistry and biology research programs.  SURI provides an opportunity for cadets from all departments to participate in summer research activities.

Research pairs are each comprised of one VMI cadet and one VMI faculty mentor, with the cadet being the principal investigator. Cadets and mentors participating in the program each receive a taxable award. Faculty and cadets from all VMI academic departments are encouraged to apply.

SURI expands VMI cadet-mentor research activities during the summer, which is the most advantageous time for conducting investigative projects. In addition to the mentored research projects, SURI sponsors an orientation, guest speakers, library instruction, and a concluding symposium with presentations by the cadet researchers.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The VMI Writing Center will hold a SURI Proposal Writing Workshop on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 1945 hrs. in 501 Scott Shipp Hall (SSH).

In addition, if you need assistance but are unable to participate in the scheduled workshop, you are welcome to make an individual appointment at the Writing Center.
