Alan Baragona is the department's medievalist, specializing in Chaucer, Arthurian Legend, and Medieval Drama. He is the webmaster of the Arthuriana Pedagogy Page and is a charter member of the group that created The Chaucer MetaPage. He also teaches History of the English Language, Baseball Literature, and seminars in Hamlet and The Taming of the Shrew.  He initiated and directs VMI's annual Undergraduate Research Shakespeare Conference.  He serves as co-adviser to the Timmins-Gentry Music Society and the English Society

He has written numerous articles, including "Chaucer in American Higher Education, Past and Present"; the entry for Chaucer in The Biographical Encyclopedia of Astronomers; "The Emmaus Plays (Peregrini)" for the CD-ROM Pilgrims and Pilgrimage: Journey, Spirituality & Daily Life through the Centuries; and "By the Numbers: A Tale Without Words" in Aethlon, The Journal of Sports Literature.
