Mary Beth Pennington teaches courses in Writing and Rhetoric. She specializes in composition studies and pedagogy, as well as the literacy practices of the rural South.  Scholarly projects include conference presentations on the rural-inspired, pedagogical theories of Myles Horton and Paulo Freire, as well as the development of teacher-student, collaborative, literacy narratives. She has particular interests in American Pragmatism as it relates to composition theory, as well as any and all examinations of the “rustic,” which largely inform her passion for the work of Thomas Hardy.
