Cadet Employment Program

The Cadet Employment Program is designed to provide part-time employment on-Post for cadets as well as off-Post community service for cadets who receive a Federal Work Study award. In addition to providing opportunities for cadets to earn extra money, the program provides the experience in developing skills in areas such as interpersonal communication, time management, and personal responsibility.

In summary, we seek to provide cadet assistants with opportunities for:

  1. Career development
  2. Establishing a work record
  3. Educational Experiences
  4. To demonstrate social responsibility
  5. To help others
  6. Earn money
  7. Get more involved on-Post

All cadet employment positions at VMI are hired into one of two categories; Cadet Assistants and Federal Work Study.

The Cadet Employment Program exists to assist cadets financially by offering valuable work experiences that will enhance their life now and in the future. Cadet employment can be the first step in their career development at Virginia Military Institute.

This web page is designed to assist Cadet Employees on Post with the various details of the Cadet Employment Program. Below are cadet employee resources and links to necessary employment documents. The Cadet Employment Program Employee Handbook has been created to help cadets with questions and issues they may have while working as a cadet assistant.

The information in the Cadet Assistant Supervisors Guide and the Federal Work Study Supervisors Guide will help supervisors be more effective and better understand the hiring process.  Cadet supervisors should be familiar with the policies and procedures outlined in this guide and should contact Career Services with questions.

Cadets will need to complete the necessary employment documents in order to work on-Post as a Cadet Assistant or off-Post as a Federal Work Study Cadet.

From this site, cadets and supervisors can download cadet assistant time sheets and a list of 2008-2009 pay-periods
