Welcome to Career Services at VMI

Cadets will find an array of resources in this website to assist in personal assessment, career research, skill development and job/internship searches and find information on assessing personal work values, interests, and personality traits which are with given occupations.  They can also find information on writing effective resumes, finding meaningful internships, attending career fairs, connecting with employers and alumni in KeydetConnect for cadetsinterviewing, and searching for the ideal job.  Take some time to see what is here to assist you in the pursuit of a future career.  Cadets may even find employment on Post through the Cadet Employment Program here.

Employers are invited to post jobs or internships for cadets in our web-based KeydetConnect for employers.  Employers can also attend our Challenge Job Fair, and set up resume collections, information sessions or on-campus interviews by contacting Mrs. Kaye Taylor in advance.  We can assist in connecting employers with faculty for classroom visits and presentations.  A statement of our ethical standards, and Principles for Professional Conduct in recruitment is available.

Alumni have access to web-based resources that assist in self-assessmentcareer research, job search preparation and job search programs and links.  Alumni are invited to post jobs or internships in KeydetConnect for alumni  and are welcome to serve as a career mentors to cadets in VMI Alumni Mentoring Network.  There are a host of alumni networking events planned each year which also provide great opportunity for having a positive impact on cadets.

Faculty and Staff play a key role in encouraging career planning and preparation in cadets.  Most of our cadet referrals come from faculty guiding cadets to our resources. The Office of Career Services professional staff are available to give classroom presentations on career information or preparation and welcome opportunities to visit your department.

Family and Visitors can see numerous resources that are available at our office to assist cadets in their career preparation.  The Four Year Plan is one key document available to both family and cadets and can serve as a checklist to use the college experience for optimal preparation for successful careers.  There is also valuable information on the nature of the Millennial Generation and many key attributes to consider.  Family members are also encouraged to post job or internship opportunities to KeydetConnect from their employer or organization.
