Disabilities Services

Disabilities Services at Virginia Military InstituteWhen they meet the academic standards for admission, students with "invisible disabilities" (such as ADHD and learning disabilities) are admitted to VMI.  Over the years, students with disabilities have been active and successful in all aspects of VMI life, including academics, athletics and military duties.

Often the greatest challenge for these cadets is accepting help.  Yet nobody can make it through VMI without a lot of support in one or more aspects of their cadetship.

Disabilities Services is located in the Miller Academic Center where a professional staff " Helps Cadets Help Themselves."  The Coordinator of Disabilities Services, LTC Mollie Messimer, has a doctorate in education and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Details are outlined in the Disabilities Policy.
