Molecular Biology Faculty Position

The Biology Department at the Virginia Military Institute invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant/associate professor level. VMI is a small highly rated undergraduate institution with a strong emphasis on teaching and undergraduate research.  The new hire will also be appointed to the interdisciplinary Center for Cellular, Molecular, and Biological Chemistry, which has well equipped laboratories in all these areas. We seek an individual whose teaching and research interests focus on aspects of molecular biology and complement the expertise of the Center’s faculty, which includes the disciplines of neuroscience, developmental and cellular biology, virology, and microbiology.  The position will have a significant commitment to teaching introductory biology and developing molecular biology, as well as genetics lab-based courses.  It is expected that the successful applicant will be committed to undergraduate education and develop an active research program involving students.  Applicants should have an earned Ph.D. Postdoctoral, and undergraduate teaching experience is highly desirable.  Faculty wear uniforms and adhere to military customs but military experience is not required. The starting date for this position is 1 August 2010.
