Scholarships
Chemistry Scholarship Form
The department of chemistry at Virginia Military Institute is the beneficiary of the good will of several of our successful chemistry alumni. The department receives grant monies that are used to offer scholarships to students who wish to be chemistry majors. In recent years, in-state freshman have been awarded $1,000 - $3,000 and out-of-state freshmen have received $2,000 - $4,000. The scholarships are renewable each year.
Typically, chemistry majors without other full scholarship support will continue to receive departmental scholarship aid during their residence at VMI. The amount of scholarship support students receive after the first year depends on the student's year and academic performance. Exceptional students (both in-state and out-of-state) may receive full scholarships in their senior year.
As a high school senior who intends to enroll as a chemistry major at the Virginia Military Institute in the fall, you are eligible to compete for one of several scholarships awarded by VMI to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and promise in the study of chemistry. If you wish to be a candidate for a chemistry scholarship, please complete the application for scholarship and arrange to have one letter of recommendation from one of your high school teachers (preferably your chemistry teacher) sent to the chemistry department.
Applications received by 31 May will receive full consideration however, we often consider later submissions, particularly for late transfers into chemistry or late acceptances to VMI. Electronic submissions are encouraged and they should be sent to Dr. Cain at cainjb@vmi.edu. Otherwise, please send the completed application to:
