2010 Annual Meeting of the Society for Military History

The 77th Annual Meeting of the Society for Military History with the theme, "Causes Lost and Won," will provide an opportunity for a wide examination of military institutions and practices, including the causes, conduct, resolution, and consequences of past wars.  While the theme will provide a basic guide to determining the final program, the program committee will gladly consider proposals on other facets and perspectives of military history. 

The program for the annual meeting is now available.

The Virginia Military Institute and the George C. Marshall Foundation will host this spring's meeting, with the Center for Leadership and Ethics and the George C. Marshall Museum serving as the principal venues for the meeting. 

Attendee and exhibitor registration is now open.  Early rate is available through 31 March 2010.

Lexington, Virginia is a beautiful small college town about 190 miles southwest of Washington, DC, at the juncture of Interstate highways 81 & 64.  It  is an historic town, featuring VMI, Washington & Lee University, and many historic sites related to Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and George C. Marshall.  It also offers many unique shops and fine dining.  Lexington is located in Rockbridge County, Virginia, which features native beauty such as the Maury River, Goshen Pass, the Natural Bridge of Virginia, the James River, and House Mountain.  You will find many ways to enjoy your visit to the area. 

The closest full-service airport to Lexington is the Roanoke Regional Airport (50 miles).  Other airports that can be accessed are Charlottesville, Weyers Cave, and Washington, DC.
