Editorial Assistant, The VMI Alumni Association, Inc.

This position resides within the VMI Alumni Association publications department. Responsible for assisting in the creation of the Alumni Review magazine in print and digital formats. The ideal candidate should work well with a tight-knit team, be detail oriented, comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment and able to maintain composure in stressful circumstances. Candidates may submit a writing sample with their resume and cover letter.
•Occasional original writing and light editing, to include: correcting errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and style using AP Style and in-house style guides; proofreading; verifying that acronyms are defined; checking alumni names, position titles, etc.; and ensuring consistency in formatting.
•Provide information by promptly answering inquiries and researching requests.
•Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
•Other tasks, as needed.
A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or communications (or related field) and/or 3-5 years of related experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge: Proficient in MS Word and Excel; some working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and PhotoShop a plus.
Skills: Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with knowledge of AP Style. Self-starter, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Excellent project management, organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to build relationships and work well in a team environment. Strong work ethic, attention to detail and quality. Willingness to learn.
