Admission to VMI is a two-step process. If an applicant is offered a Conditional Appointment, based upon his or her academic and personal record, the applicant must then meet VMI medical qualifications for admission.
VMI uses Department of Defense standards as a reference; however, medical admissions will be based upon a review of each application individually to determine if the applicant can safely and fully participate in all aspects of the rigorous VMI academic and physical program. After reviewing the initial medical packet, the Post Physician may request further records or a direct conversation with the applicant's physician and the applicant.
If, after fully reviewing all the medical records along with information from the applicant, the student is determined to have a condition that may prevent full and safe participation in all aspects of VMI's program, the medical packet is reviewed by a Fitness Review Panel and forwarded to the Superintendent who makes the final decision.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have further questions related to VMI medical requirements. Questions regarding commissioning should be directed to the specific ROTC branch of interest.
