Dr. David W. Cheney is the Director of the Science and Technology Policy Program at SRI International. He has 25 years of experience working on a wide variety of science and technology policy issues, including energy policy and technology, innovation and economic competitiveness, information technology, technology transfer, and science and technology human resources. Before coming to SRI, he held a variety of senior level positions, including vice president at the Internet Policy Institute; senior executive in the Department of Energy (serving as Associate Deputy Under Secretary for Technology Partnerships and as Executive Director of the Secretary of Energy Advisory Board); Senior Associate at the private sector Council on Competitiveness; staff director for the Subcouncil on Critical Technologies of the Competitiveness Policy Council; Executive Director of the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association; Analyst with the Congressional Research Service; and visiting researcher at Saitama University in Japan. He has a Ph.D. in Public Policy from George Mason University, a M.S. in Technology and Policy from MIT, and a B.S. in Geology and Biology from Brown University.
