Abstract Submission Guidelines

Submit abstracts relevant to the symposium theme, “Collective Impact: Working Together to Create a Positive Environmental Legacy." Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:

  • Air Quality
  • Ecology
  • Emergency Response
  • Energy Efficiency or Development
  • Environmental Education
  • Environmental Policy
  • Ground water
  • Human health
  • Land Conservation
  • Materials Recovery
  • Nutrient Reduction
  • Stormwater Management
  • Sustainability in Higher Education
  • Waste water
  • Water Supply
  • Water quality

 

The deadline for submission is 21 January 2014. Abstracts will be reviewed in a blind review process. A limited number of abstracts will be accepted for presentation. Notice of acceptance will be made by 12 February 2014. Abstracts should be fewer than 350 words and will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Incorporation of data and/or case studies
  • Relevance to Virginia
  • Innovative
  • Social Impact

 

Undergraduates whose abstracts are accepted will sharpen their skills by making 5-minute speed presentation AND create a poster for presentation and display at the symposium.

Undergraduate students who present at the symposium will be able to register at the early registration fee for students, which is $20 for the three-day conference. Accepted presenters are responsible for their symposium registration fee and their own hotel and transportation costs. There is no charge for VMI cadets who have abstracts accepted. 

The full symposium program will be developed through a combination of invited plenary speakers, invited break-out session presenters, and presenters chosen based on submitted abstracts.
