The Center for Cadet Counseling (CCC) offers the following services to cadets enrolled at VMI:
Counseling & Assessment
The CCC offers individual assessment of needs and short-term counseling. Cadets may seek counseling for personal growth and development, as well as mental health or substance use concerns. The counselors on staff work collaboratively with other professionals on Post, primarily the VMI infirmary staff. Psychiatric evaluations and consultation may be coordinated through the CCC.
Consultation & Referral
The professional counselors on staff are available for consultations with members of the VMI family, including parents, faculty and staff, or cadets. It is important to note that all counseling information is confidential and may only be shared with the express consent of a cadet.
Care is taken with every consultation to make note of any concerns shared, and to respond informatively within the bounds of client confidentiality. Consultations may result in coordinating referrals for support or specialized services on Post, locally or near a cadet's home.
Confidentiality
Counseling records are strictly confidential. Written authorization from the cadet is required before counseling records may be released. Federal and state laws govern the circumstances under which information may be released, as well as exceptions permitting parental notification and coordination of safety plans in the event of an emergency.
