COL Tom Sheperd is a Sub- Saharan Africa Foreign Area Officer (FAO) who has worked in Defense Attaché and Security Assistance related positions in Yaoundé, Cameroon; Asmara, Eritrea; and Nairobi, Kenya.
He currently serves as the Director of African Studies and Regional Studies Coordinator at the United States Army War College, Carlisle Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses on the theory of war and strategy, national security policy, and the Sub-Saharan Africa strategic environment.
Colonel Sheperd is a graduate of the Field Artillery and Armor Officer Advanced Courses, United States Army Command and General Staff College, Cameroonian Certificate D’Etat Majeure, and the United States Army War College.
Colonel Sheperd holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and International Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science, with a certificate in African Studies, from the University of Florida (Gainesville), and a Master of Strategic Studies Degree from the United States Army War College.
