Over the past few years, the Keydets have been lead by former heavyweight Josh Wine, a two-sports star and one of the select few that have been named all-conference in two sports as a Keydet (wrestling and football) Wine became the fifth Keydet wrestler in school history, and the first since Adam Britt in 2001-2003 to win a trio of SoCon championships, winning the third in his final year on Post in 2010. Josh was VMI’s team leader in wins for the second-straight year, Wine finished his SoCon career with a 14-1 record and a 23-2 career record in the Thunder Dome. He wrapped up his career with a 64-21 overall record with six major decisions and 14 pins.
Members of the wrestling squad have also developed quite the reputation in the Corps, as three members of the 2011-12 squad hold rank in the Corps of Cadets. Led by senior Regimental Commander Matt Brock, senior Joe Munno is president of the First Classman, while junior John Dommert is the leader of the second classman for the 2011-12 academic year.
The Keydets have the privilege of conducting all home matches in the legendary Cocke Hall, a.k.a the Thunder Dome. Since its inception, the Thunder Dome has been home to some of the nation’s most ruckus wrestling crowds, and routinely draws a packed house with rowdy Cadets supporting their brothers in arms.
