Captain Robert H. Widmyer
Capt. Widmyer is from Spartanburg, South Carolina. He is married to Amanda Widmyer of Charleston, South Carolina. Capt. Widmyer graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in Information Management Systems, and received his commission in January 2005.
After graduating from the Infantry Officer Basic Course and Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA in 2005, Capt. Widmyer served as Platoon Leader for Delta Company of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment out of Fort Richardson, Alaska. He then served as a Platoon leader for Blackfoot Co 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment during a 14 month deployment to Iraq. Upon redeployment, CPT Widmyer transitioned to the Signal Corp by completing the Signal Captain’s Career Course in November of 2008. He was then assigned to HHC 35th Signal Brigade where he served in the BDE S-3 section. Capt. Widmyer was next assigned to command Alpha Company 67th ESB on the 23rd of December, 2009 while forward deployed to Iraq. He remained in command of Alpha Company for two years, after which he was assigned to VMI.
Capt. Widmyer’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
