VMI Holiday Celebrations Continue
A candlelight service will follow Carols in the Courtyard on the VMI post this Sunday, Dec. 9. -- VMI File Photo by Kevin Remington.LEXINGTON, Va., Dec. 5, 2012 – VMI’s holiday celebrations on and off post continue this Friday, Dec. 7, with Christmas with the Jacksons at the Stonewall Jackson House from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Costumed tour guides will offer candlelight tours of the house and explain 19th-century Christmas traditions. Admission for the event will consist of canned or other non-perishable food items to benefit the Rockbridge Area Relief Association food pantry.
VMI Community Theatre will present Stocking Stuffers, a collection of holiday themed short plays, stories, and music in the Gillis Theatre at Marshall Hall. Three performances will be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 6 and under.
The VMI Glee Club will welcome the community into the Old Barracks courtyard Sunday, Dec. 9, for Carols in the Courtyard, an annual holiday celebration featuring sing-alongs, cookies, and hot chocolate. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public.
Following the performance, a candlelight service will be held in Jackson Memorial Hall at 8:15 p.m. During the service, participants will sing hymns, hear a Scripture reading, and meditate on the Christmas spirit.
