Captain Daniel J. Poutier is a native of Yorktown, Virginia and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Dayton. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery upon graduation from Army Officer Candidate School in December 2004. Following the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Captain Poutier was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Drum, New York where he served as Target Acquisition Platoon Leader from June 2005 to July 2006. In August 2006, Captain Poutier was assigned to 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, Fort Drum, New York where he served as a Troop Fire Support Officer and Squadron Targeting Officer from August 2006 to March 2008. Captain Poutier returned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment where he served as a Firing Platoon Leader from April 2008 to March 2009.
Captain Poutier completed the Field Artillery Captain’s Career Course in September 2009 and was assigned to 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as Squadron Fire Support Officer from September 2009 to December 2010. Captain Poutier then served as the Commander of Alpha Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment from February 2011 to February 2012. Following battery command, Captain Poutier served as the 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment Battalion Fire Direction Officer from March 2012 to December 2012. In January 2013, Captain Poutier assumed duties as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at the Virginia Military Institute.
Captain Poutier’s deployments include Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from
August 2005 to July 2006, Kirkuk, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from September 2007 to October 2008, and Farah, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from September 2010 to July 2011.
Captain Poutier’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Action Badge.
