LEXINGTON, Va., May 10, 2013 – After winning two home games last Saturday, VMI’s club lacrosse team heads to the University of Maryland-College Park for the Elite 8 Level national finals this weekend.
“The VMI Club Lacrosse team has had a spectacular 2013 season competing in the National Collegiate Lacrosse League,” said Christopher Kelly ’13, cadet in charge. “They finished the regular season at a perfect 5-0 record while making it to the conference playoffs for the second year in a row.”
“I’m very proud of our guys and the season,” said Anthony Mackin, who is in his second season as the club’s head coach. “There’s no doubt in my mind that our guys can really get it done. But we need to win that first game first.”
Play starts tomorrow at 11 a.m. against No. 3-ranked Columbia University. Columbia is 6-2 on the season while VMI is 7-0 after playoffs last Saturday.
The winner of that game will progress to the final four, with the next game beginning at 5 p.m.
The game for the Division II national championship will follow on Sunday morning.
