LEXINGTON, Va., May 14, 2013 – More than 200 VMI employees gathered in Marshall Hall May 3 for the Employee Health and Wellness Fair. The event offered opportunities to engage with area experts and business people who offered health screenings, product samples, and information.
“It was amazing. There were lots of vendors, so there was something for everybody – outdoor recreation, financial health, personal fitness, organics, local produce vendors,” said Maj. Kathy Tomlin, wellness director and director of purchasing.
Staff from Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital and Augusta Health were on site to offer medical screenings, allowing employees to save as much as $300. These screenings included tests for osteoporosis, high blood pressure, skin damage, and stroke risk.
Door prizes were also awarded; giveaways included restaurant and grocery gift certificates, a kayak trip, and a birthday party.
In addition to a wholesome lunch served by Aramark, employees were treated to local beef barbecue and smoothies.
