Company F Earns Company and Commandant’s Cups

LEXINGTON, Va., June 17, 2013 – In a ceremony held May 16 in Jackson Memorial Hall, outstanding cadets and their companies were recognized for accomplishments made throughout the academic year.
The Company Cup, which honors the company with the highest combined average GPA for fall and spring semesters, was awarded to Company F.
Company F also earned the Commandant’s Cup, which is awarded based on performance on the VMI fitness test, the 3rd Class marksmanship competition, and the North Post Challenge.
The Garnett Andrews Cup, which recognizes military efficiency, was awarded to Company D.
The Superintendent’s Cup, which recognizes excellence across the areas of academics, physical fitness, and military efficiency, was awarded to Company E.
Individual awards were presented to seven cadets who have excelled in academic, military, and leadership endeavors:
Lemuel Mackennie Long Jarman Award – Dominic Mutter ’16
William Brent Bell ’67 Award – Rob Franzino ’15
Distinguished Third Class Leadership Award – James Murphy III ’15
Veteran’s Recognition Award – Michael Lund ’13
Community Service Award – Kathleen Coonan ’13
Fit Cadet Award –Michelle Church ’15 and Narathip Khanhansuk ’15
Members of the top three teams in the North Post challenge, now in its second year, were also recognized. Company B took first place, with Company G placing second and Company D placing third.
The 3rd Class Marksmanship Award was presented to Band Company, which had the highest average score on the M-16 service rifle. In addition, 27 cadets were recognized for earning the U.S. Army expert marksmanship badge.
