MAJ Josh Iddings currently teaches courses in Writing and Rhetoric, Language and Style, and Cultural Rhetorics and Prison Writing. His research interests include Systemic Functional Linguistics, Rhetoric and Composition, and Appalachian Studies. Josh recently published a co-edited volume entitled Genre Pedagogy Across the Curriculum: Theory and Application in U.S. Classrooms and Contexts (Equinox) with Dr. Luciana de Oliveira.. Additionally, he recently published the chapter "A Social Justice Curriculum for Appalachia: with his colleague, Dr. Ryan Angus. MAJ Iddings has presented research at local, state, national and international conferences in countries like South Korea, Canada, Germany, Australia, and Portugal.

Aside from his teaching and research interests, MAJ Iddings has developed several opportunities for cadets to engage with the literacy education of local children, including partnerships with Waddell Elementary School in Lexington, VA, and Rockbridge Reads in Rockbridge County, VA.

Additionally, MAJ Iddings serves as the Programs Coordinator of the VMI Center for Undergraduate Research (VCUR) where he coordinates the VCUR Symposium and the Summer Undergraduate Research Institute (SURI).
