French Professor to Speak on Translating

LEXINGTON, Va., Feb. 4, 2014 – A French professor and translator will speak at VMI on Thursday, Feb. 6, as part of the Life After Language series sponsored by the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures.
Mary Byrd Kelly’s talk, “Lost in Translation: Using Your Foreign Language Skills as a Translator,” will begin at 7:45 p.m. in the Turman Room of Preston Library.
Kelly holds a master’s degree in French from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Since 1991 she has taught French language and culture at the University of Kansas. A translator of works by contemporary French scholars and thinkers, she published in 2013 a co-translation of Christian Delage’s Caught on Camera: Film in the Courtroom from the Nuremburg Trials to the Trials of the Khmer Rouge.
