Accreditation by AACSB—International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, has been the major focus of the economics and business faculty this year. By the end of the semester, members of the faculty will have addressed all of the standards that we must meet for accreditation. During the summer and fall of 2008, the department will complete its self-evaluation report (SER). This report is a necessary prerequisite to a peer review visit, which is tentatively scheduled for the spring of 2009.
AACSB--International is the premier accrediting agency for business programs around the world. The department is now in its fourth year of a five year pre-accreditation process.
AACSB standards are grouped into three domains: strategic management, participants, and assurance of learning. The centerpiece of strategic management is the mission statement. The department spent considerable time and effort developing a mission statement that describes our unique approach to business education. During the past year, we added a vision statement for the department, as well as a statement of values. These three statements—vision, mission, and statement of values—define who we are, what we do, and how we do it. The process of developing these statements has helped us to focus our attention and resources on our most important goal—producing leaders of character for the 21 century.
