Undergraduate Research Shakespeare Conference
Since the Fall of 2004, the VMI Department of English and Fine Arts has hosted an annual conference for undergraduates from colleges in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond to share their research on Shakespeare and the Renaissance.
The conference is made possible by funding from the English and Fine Arts Department's Navas-Read Fund and the VMI Undergraduate Research Initiative and with the generous cooperation of The American Shakespeare Center (formerly Shenandoah Shakespeare).
Over a three-day period, students present papers, hear a keynote address by a noted figure in Shakespearean scholarship or theater, watch a film of a Shakespeare play, tour the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia, and see a performance at the Blackfriars.
Students are awarded prizes and certificates for Best Paper in Session and Best Paper in Conference. All essays are published on this web site, and all participants, including students, faculty, speakers and guests, receive the coveted VMI URSC tee-shirt.
