Cadet Internships

The summer of 2011 will find eighteen EC/BU cadets performing internships in a wide variety of locations, companies, and functional areas. At least six of these cadets have chosen to register for the summer class “Internship for Credit”. All of these cadets will be earning a nice wage this summer, ranging from $9/hour up to more than $30/hour. The days of unpaid internships in the business world are over – a mutually beneficial trend for cadets and employers, who often use the internship as an extended job interview.

Given the continuing tough economic climate, cadets had to work hard to obtain these excellent opportunities. Working in conjunction with Linda Moreschi, EC/BU Internship Coordinator, and our excellent staff in the Office of Career Services, cadets have located positions in the following companies:

Bloomberg Global Data
Owens & Minor
Barclays LLC
US Department of State
US Department of Energy
US Senate
Northwestern Mutual
Atlantic Credit & Finance
Northrup Grummon
AOC Key Solutions
Sam Segar & Associates
Virginia Managed Investments
Research Financial Strategies

The cadets who will be earning credit for their internships have specific academic requirements, including setting learning objectives prior to starting, submitting weekly logs, writing a paper, and giving a presentation to the EC/BU faculty when they return in the fall. Part of their grade also comes from an employer evaluation.  As Cadet Chris Fraser ’12 said of his 2010 internship for credit, “Completing an internship for credit forces you to spend time reflecting on your experience in the working world. Not only does it allow you to make connections between academic lessons and the business world, it also gives you a chance to objectively gauge your internship and think about whether you'd like to pursue a career in that line of work.”  The cadets pursuing credit work with the faculty advisor, Col Robert Moreschi, who oversees the academic component. Depending on the functional areas covered, cadets can earn up to three credits of either a business or economic elective.

We are always looking for valuable internship opportunities for cadets. If you know of an available internship for the summer of 2012, please contact Linda Moreschi at or (540) 464-7237.
